Jesus is Lord

JESUS IS LORD - What does that mean?

Recently I had the opportunity to speak to a number of young folk about who Jesus is? Posing the question is Jesus a Liar, Lunatic or Lord? When you look at the evidence for all three, I believe there can only be one conclusion, that Jesus is truly Lord (you can listen to my talk via our sermon page).  On this particular evening three young adults raised their hands when asked if they wanted to re-dedicate or for the first time consider that Jesus is Lord (Praise God!)

Since that evening, I have constantly been reminded of what a friend of mine, Tim Cunningham used to say nearly every time I discussed something with him. He used to say, “What does that mean?” He was never satisfied with simple statements, but instead encouraged Christians to have some depth to their commitment and to their speech. In fact through Tim asking me this very question I have increased my knowledge and understanding of God’s word, because to find any meaning in our beliefs and statements like “Jesus is Lord” we have to turn to God’s word.

Jesus is Lord – So what does that mean when someone gives that statement?

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10

Jesus is Lord means that he is the Son of God, that through Love and Mercy he came to die for our sins and three days later rose from the dead to sit at the right hand of God. Through all this, we could seek forgiveness for our sins, be made right in the eyes of God and spend our lives sharing the amazing Love of Jesus with anyone we come in contact with.

Put in another way, have a listen to this song by Avalon (a group I went to see over 10 years ago) called “Everything to me”. The words of this song describe exactly what it means to declare Jesus as Lord in your life. He is not a story, not a fairytale but everything to me.

Everything to me, He's more than a story

More than words on a page of history

He's the air that I breathe the water I thirst for

And the ground beneath my feet

He's everything, everything to me

Let me leave you with this question: Is Jesus Lord of your Life?
